The biomarker resolution the next generation of cardiometabolic therapies demands

Cardiometabolic disease drives more global mortality than any other category.

The next wave of therapies, GLP-1 receptor agonists, PCSK9 inhibitors, emerging FGF21 analogues, needs biomarker workflows that resolve subtle, early shifts in disease biology and treatment response.

THE MEASUREMENT CHALLENGE

One disease area. Three very different sensitivity regimes.

Cardiometabolic biomarker research does not operate at one analytical scale.

Some programmes depend on ultra-sensitive single-analyte detection: high-sensitivity troponin, BNP and NT-proBNP, or ultra-low CRP.

Others need multiplex inflammatory profiling to resolve atherosclerosis and metabolic inflammation.

Emerging therapeutic programmes increasingly require measurement of metabolic regulators such as FGF21, GDF15 and adiponectin.

The analytical question changes across these programmes, and the platform should change with it. Running all three regimes in one laboratory is what makes that possible without changing supplier mid-programme.

Where we fit

We run a complementary platform stack across all three sensitivity regimes, matching the analytical technology to the biomarker question rather than forcing every study onto a single platform.

That lets a cardiometabolic programme combine ultra-sensitive cardiac markers, inflammatory multiplexing, emerging metabolic biomarkers and genomic context within one analytical strategy, one supplier, one contract and one chain of custody.

A single cardiometabolic trial can span cardiac safety endpoints, inflammatory mechanism and metabolic pharmacodynamics.

Cardiac, inflammatory and metabolic – one laboratory

Ultra-sensitive cardiac markers on Simoa, metabolic regulators such as FGF21, GDF15 and adiponectin on MSD, and broad metabolic inflammation profiling on NULISA – all run in our own HTA-licensed laboratory in London.

A single cardiometabolic trial can cover cardiac safety, inflammatory mechanism and metabolic pharmacodynamics without samples ever leaving our hands.

We run Simoa on the SR-X alongside NULISA, MSD and sequencing.

All of them are ours, so the recommendation you get is a scientific one. If your target is better served by NULISA or MSD we will say so, and the work stays with us either way.

Homebrew development means we are not limited to the catalogue.

Where no commercial Simoa assay exists for your target, we can build one.

SAMPLE COLLECTION

Decentralised and low-volume sampling

Cardiometabolic trials increasingly collect outside the clinic. Longitudinal metabolic and inflammatory monitoring benefits from frequent sampling, and frequent sampling is easier when it does not require a phlebotomist.

Dried blood and plasma spots

NULISA detects 80–95% of targets from dried blood and plasma spots. That makes remote and self-collected sampling viable for high-plex inflammatory profiling.

Microsampling and low-volume collection

Ultra-sensitive platforms mean a small sample is not a small dataset.

Relevant to decentralised trials, longitudinal cohorts, paediatric metabolic studies, and any programme where sampling frequency matters more than sampling volume.

Talk to us about a decentralised design

One biomarker programme. The platform breadth to match it.

Cardiometabolic work increasingly needs more than one platform: ultra-sensitive single-analyte measurement for the cardiac side, multiplex breadth for the inflammatory side, and custom development for novel metabolic regulators.

We run all of it in-house, in a single laboratory.

Quality framework

HTA licence 12818, the UK framework governing the storage and use of human tissue

  • GCP-compliant workflows

  • Aligned to ISO 15189, the international standard for medical laboratories

  • Documented SOPs and full sample chain of custody

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
